Dr Phillips is a Foundation Scholar of Christ's College, Cambridge.  After graduating in 1984, he trained in general medicine in Cambridge, Taunton and Bath, before moving to Birmingham to specialise in Dermatology. While in Birmingham, he won a Scholarship to the World Congress of Dermatology and subsequently a Wellcome Fellowship.  This gave him the opportunity to take up a prestigious Senior Registrar post at St John's Institute of Dermatology at St Thomas' Hospital in London, where he continued his training in dermatology and dermatopathology.  While at St John's Institute of Dermatology, he was the first dermatologist to gain the Royal College of Pathologists' Diploma in Dermatopathology.

In 1996, he was appointed as Consultant Dermatologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Royal Free Hospital Medical School NHS Trust.  While working at the Royal Free Hospital, he was invited to take over a prominent private dermatology practice at 99 Harley Street, which he ran until 2001.  Around this time, he developed rheumatoid arthritis, which has caused very severe ongoing foot pain. This has given him insight into, and empathy for, patients suffering from life-changing medical problems.   

In 2001 he moved to his home town of Bath, taking up a post as Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal United Hospital NHS Trust.  He developed a thriving and well regarded private practice at The Bath Clinic.  For some years, he chaired a committee co-ordinating the care of skin cancer for a population of around three million people.

Dr Phillips has a very personalised approach to clinical practice and enjoys caring for patients and their families.
